For those who don't know. Amiibo Dan hosts an Amiibo World Tournament. #5 was my first entry. Our Admin, Cloud won this tournament with his Ness. Keethkon won AWT #4 with his doubles team of Gannondorf and Ness. AWT #5 is Waifu vs Bae, female amiibo only, anything goes when it comes to bonuses.
My first observation is, as expected, this tournament is very Lucina and Rosalina heavy. Lots of entrants of those characters. Arguably, they are two of the best female amiibo you can find right now as Corrin and Bayonetta have not been released as amiibo. I saw lots of Zero Suit Samuses and most got rekt! Is she just hard to train or is the Lucina/Rosalina heavy field just a bad match up?
A few Peaches moved on, but few were able to take advantage of their sleeping opponents in her Final Smash. Also, how many missed Final Smashes were there? Yikes!
The metagame seemed strong here with both Villagers advancing, 2 out of the 3 Samuses advancing, a Yoshi and a Wendy (Bowser Jr) advancing.
EPS everywhere! Either you had it or hoped to get around it some how. No item equips, which tells you how bad those bonuses are. As for EPS, like Amiibo Dan pointed out, some characters with range attacks, namely Villager and Samus, seem to have some advantage when dealing with EPS as they can trigger it and follow up, potentially avoiding the explosion.
Anyone else who watched it, let me know what you think. Here's a link if you haven't seen it yet:

This has been a really weird tournament. There aren't as many Rosalinas as I anticipated, but there are plenty of Lucinas, many of which have already been eliminated. Meanwhile, obscure characters like Samus and Wendy are advancing, while many higher-ranked characters are faring poorly. However, I'm completely confident that Supernova can take this tournament. As long as she doesn't make any dumb mistakes like Little Mac and Bowser did last time, she'll be able to prove once again that we're at the top.

My Villager was a little more passive and defensive than I expected, but it worked to her advantage. The Autoheal takes advantage of that down time and the classic Amiibo stare down. Plus, being as grabby as she was also played to her advantage against keethkon's ZSS since it looked like she was heavily trained to use that Explosive Perfect Shield to perfection. In both matches, ZSS got took a stock from an EPS on my Villager's recovery, something I trained my Villager not to rely on. Getting grabby is the best way to get around EPS. I had to laugh when Amiibo Dan asked "Villager, what are you going to do about that tree, mate?" when she planted them in the first match. I trained her to plant the trip Tree Counter and camp behind it, grabbing opponents when they trip for a throw. It worked out pretty well. Now, it's wait and see how far it takes her.

Rewatching my match super close, there were a couple of key moments. In the first game, I got lucky. My Villager got her kill through the Final Smash and ZSS controlled most of the match. Keethkon, I don't know if you taught your ZSS to try to spike in that situation or what, but ZSS overshot the jump by a long shot and basically SD'd when she couldn't reach the edge with the Grapple Beam. Keethkon should have won that round, but I got that win by a fluke. In the second match, my Villager showed a different strategy than I ever taught her. After falling way behind, losing a stock and getting pummeled by ZSS's Final Smash, it looked grim. A huge back throw evened the stocks as my Villager began to heal. She was up to 85%. She played keep away and got down to 45% when ZSS caught up and took her back to 83%. More keep away and some occasional grabs got her to 37% by the time she back threw the ZSS for the win. To be honest, I never taught that kind of a stall strategy to my amiibo. I tried to get her to plant the Timber Counter and camp with Lloyds, waiting for grab opportunities. My Villager ran around the level. ZSS seemed to struggle a bit on the platforms while my Villager just parked and healed. Interesting match.

Which one was yours again? As in, what was its name?

Yeah, there were two Villagers. Mine was the first one who fought, Snuglebunz. Amiibo Dan incorrectly said it was Kevin Luong (keethkon)'s when it was mine.

Entry Stats Amiibo
| R3 | Entered | Lucina | 3 | 7
| Zero Suit Samus
| 0 | 8 | Robin | 3 | 3 | Samus | 2 | 3 | Rosalina | 2 | 3 | Peach | 1 | 3 | Villager
| 2 | 2
| Bowser Jr
| 1
| 2 | Shiek | 1 | 2 | Yoshi | 1 | 1 | Jigglypuff | 0 | 1 | Zelda
| 0
| 1
| Mii Brawler
| 0
| 1

Stats show Lucina and ZSS were the most entered amiibo with Robins and Villagers and a Yoshi being the only ones whom every one advanced to R3. Poor, poor Zero Suit Samus. 0-8 is harsh. Is she really that hard to train or was this a bad match-up issue?

Zero Suit's AI stinks, that's why. Her character design is much more of a bait n' punish type, but the AI likes to fight up close. Not only that, but she doesn't kill outside of forward smash and the occasional up smash, she has one of the laggiest grabs that she WILL constantly throw out, and her aerials are super awkward hitbox wise.
Besides that, its not like the amiibo can handle doing those Nario 0-deaths that make ZSS top tier to begin with...

Next round posted. Watching my match with Hai, it was more competitive than the score showed. Hai 2, Havok 0, only one stock taken by my Villager. It also shows the strength of two of my least favorite amiibo bonuses, Critical Hit and Explosive Perfect Shield. My Villager started out really jumpy for some reason in the first match and lost the first stock due to it. After respawning, she put on some good pressure and was taking control until a Crit EPS took her from 22% to 99%. It was all over but the shouting after that. In the second match, Robin got some damage early, but my Villager trolled and tooled around to take the first stock sitting at 215%, but was out of position for the Smash Ball and the scores were even. She appeared in control to take the second stock until a crit stalled her aggression. From there, she couldn't get it started again and Hai's Robin was victorious.
A couple interesting things I noticed. It's common for amiibo with EPS to get an EPS kill through edge guarding. My Villager almost got one, but Robin recovered, only to get a bowling ball to the head. My Villager countered that strategy by footstooling her opponent who was lying in wait. A hilarious and disrespectful, but useful counter because EPS won't trigger without an attack. Secondly, in the Miiverse second match, my Villager was clearly waiting for Robin to jump up through the floor to attack her, with several forward smash bowling balls dropped, including 4 in rapid succession. I thought it quite funny. Amiibo can be so strange and so interesting.

No hard feelings, man. To be honest, Villager would have to be the one I trained for the most, since I have two Villagers here at home that fought Sunflash for a day or two. I was lucky to have an EPS in my equipment hold, and thank goodness did it help. Wish I had gotten an Improved Escape though. My fear though, roots from the fact that Rosalina was the one I trained the least for..........

Unfortunately, Hai and I are now both out. I got knocked out by Amiibo Dan's Samus (what) and Hai lost to a Bowser Jr. with the Wendy alt. So far this tournament is insane.

My insults to her came back to defeat me. I've never felt so dishonored in all of my Amiibo-related activities......

With every loss, I come back more determined to win. This time is no exception. However, I must say, there's something about that Samus win that is screaming "illegitimate"...but it's probably me just being paranoid as always. In all seriousness, for a Samus to come this far is a very impressive feat. I've already begun my training for the next tournament. There's no way I'm going to accept another loss on this one. I am going to train hard and reap the benefits this time. I will make sure I get revenge on Amiibo Dan for "disrespecting" Rosalina.
