So, my friends and I have this "system" of sorts in place, where all of our amiibo are vanilla except one, with that one amiibo being our "commander". My mario is supposed to be it, but I found out he had a big problem today when he was defeated by an opponent that should've been an easy target.
I forgot about Ganondorf's training guide stating that the power Ganondorf possesses throughout his moveset allows him to turn entire matches around if he plays well. I beat my friend's commander, Shulk, so I made Mario face all of my amiibos, including my 2nd Mario. Facing Ganondorf scared me a little, knowing how powerful the warlock can be. My fear was justified as I spectated a massacre.
Now, about that "Commander"...
Mario seemingly likes being airborne, which I haven't specifically trained against since it used to work with decent amounts of success. Also, considering how often he uses the Cape I think I should switch him to the electric variant so that he can actually use it offensively instead of spinning people around.
Mario's current loadout is 60/60/0, Explosive Perfect Shield, Critical Hit Capability and Lifesteal. The reason explosive shield would work when he's mainly in the air is due to him occasionally landing before an attack can hit him so he can shield it when it does. It's also a mixup of sorts, since when he's floating about it's hard to tell if he's just going to jump past you or hit you with a N.Air or B.Air. The explosions also serve as a replacement for a counter that Mario doesn't have. Perhaps replacing that effect with Improved Escapability would yield better results.
It's an impressive replay (For Ganondorf, anyway) that showed that I have a lot of work to do. I certainly won't underestimate Ganondorf again, that's for sure.
...Heh, Not Paper, because he's Mario? Not Paper Mario? Alright, have a nice day.
