Pretty much what the title says.
I picked up fox in art because he was a gift, and because he was my then main. I also trained Pac Man since he is my main, Lucas because he is my secondary, and Mewtwo because he used to be me main in melee. Most of the others I picked up because they looked like interesting characters to play.
Notable exceptions goes to MK who I piked up because I was training all the other horsemen of the amiibopocalypse and Peach to give an unappreciated amiibo some love.

I preordered Roy because I main him, the same with Little Mac, and I picked up Fox and Lucario and Link because I like them as characters.

I trained Sonic because I didn't know any better.
Mario and Little Mac got trained due to them being my mains.
Captain Falcon was trained due to pretty much every Captain Falcon compilation. Knees and such..

I trained/train any Amiibo I deem worthy. Most of them aren't even my mains, but the ones that are or have been, I have high standards for. It's been hard getting my Lucas to live up to my standards as a Lucas main, and he still doesn't. I hope Roy can at least be as great as my Marth Amiibo....

I train them all because I can.
The plus to all of it is I know what I'm doing with each character, so it works out in the end.

I've trained every amiibo I own outside of my Coin Army for the sole purpose of crushing my friends' figures (and hopefully win a tournament once I can reliably get my NFC data to Dan). We get together, crack beers, spark L's, tap our dolls, and have a ball. Every victory is sweetly savored, but defeat is never bitter because it only pushes us to improve. It's almost as if my buddies and I star in our own little shonen manga, the way we treat this hobby, and we're loving every minute of it.
