Hey there guys, Cloud here. Super NES remains by far the best amiibo in my collection. Without even using Explosive perfect shield, he can completely destroy any character I can ever hope to whip up, regardless of their bonuses. Now, let's look back to his first tournament win in Dan's tourney. It was all on non-omega Midgar, a stage which he'd never played on before. Yet, he was able to adapt and win the entire thing despite having no experience whatsoever with the stage. I had my other top fighters, Bowser and Little Mac, fight Super NES on non-omega Midgar as a test. Sure enough, they all lost. They also did not adapt and win any matches against Super NES at all.
So WHY is he so good? WHY is the only amiibo in my collection who's a consistent victor? I think the answer is experience. I started on him way back in June of 2015. I originally trained him as a vanilla, aggressive fighter. During this "era" of his training, he fought every character and on every stage for two 3-minute matches each. By the time he had been trained against every character on every stage, he had a heck of a lot of match experience. And once I made the switch to defense, he responded incredibly well and instantly rose to the top.
Now, I recently trained my spare Villager as a vanilla fighter for a test. I used a ton of aerials, and you know what happened? Villager did not totally pick up on them. Yeah, he used aerials sometimes, but he preferred to play back, perfect shield, and up smash attacks instead. The keyword here is up smash. If you go all out on your amiibo and use aerials, it will rely on its up smash as a counterattack automatically. It'll start to play defense on its own, because that's what's working for it. It learns these tendencies naturally, in order to counter your aggressive playstyle.
If you take an amiibo after it's fought every character, on every stage, and has naturally developed defensive tendencies, and then feed it equipment, and start training it defense with the guides here at Amiibo Dojo? I theorize that this will allow any amiibo to become a true champion. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to take my Villager amiibo and play as every character against him, and on every stage. I ask that you do the same. Pick an amiibo you haven't trained - one that's not in the amiibo tier list's S Rank - and give it experience against every character, and every stage, and then teach it defense. I want to see if it's significantly better than amiibo who are taught to play defense from the beginning.
I ask that you do the same, if you have time. It'll be worth your while - you might be able to pick up some Gold from me and maybe, just maybe, you'll create a fighter as strong as Super NES. You'll create a fighter who can literally handle anything. Here is a quick "training guide" on how you should do this:
Start by giving it custom moves you want it to have, and leave it VANILLA.
Level 1-25: Mirror Match
Level 26 on: Use other characters. For each character, play 2 3-minute matches against the amiibo.
After the amiibo has faced every character: Now every stage. 2 3 minute mirror matches against the amiibo.
After the amiibo has faced every character and fought on every stage: Feed it, use timer matches and Amiibo 15s, teach it defense.
