I'll just say this now.
He's a headache.
He can come out great, but,
for a while,
he'll be a stuttering idiot.
Trust me.
I've poured over a month into mine, and he just became good.
Not saying he isn't worth your time, but,
just be prepared for frustration.
A lot of it.

Side Special, Forward Smash for reads, and Counter for reads And if he hits you with up special, or if you hit him with it Restart the match Or else he'll spam it

Side Special, Forward Smash for reads, and Counter for reads And if he hits you with up special, or if you hit him with it Restart the match Or else he'll spam it Try not to use Side-B almost at all, he'll usually miss, then the ending lag leads to punishment,
F-Smash can be good, unless Countered,
He'll barely Counter at all, expect that,
Up-Special should not be used, no.

Roy's Side-B almost never works around here.

Just remember a couple things when training Roy, and you'll be golden!
- Stay in close quarters and teach him how to get in and fight there.
- Use kill moves like forward smash sparingly.
- Double Edge Dance is useful for tricks and other potential setups, even if not all four hits connect.
- Aerials are useful, but don't let Roy spam forward air, it just never out for him if he does.
- Make sure he can recover properly, because he'll overshoot the ledge otherwise.
- Flare Blade isn't very useful, I wouldn't encourage your Roy to use this move.
- And finally, make sure he knows his true combos.

Well, teach him to use Flare Blade every once and a while, but charging it just ends up wrong.
Also, I still don't think Side-B is useful for him. He needs his own version of "Effortless Blade".

I mean, Flare Blade can work, its just when is usually the problem. By the time my Roy throws it out, his opponent is already on it and perfect shields the move.
DED is pretty useful for Hot Stuff, maybe not for your Roy though. Of course, not many of my amiibo are equipped with the speed to get out, so there might be somethin'.

Any recommended stat bonuses? I don't think trade off speedster is a good idea

30/50/40
20/50/50
65/65/-10

60/50/10
Critical Hit Capability
Reduced Landing Impact
Weakened Jump
----------------
(You can also substitute Weakened Jump for Heavy Jump, AKA, Anchor Jump. This adds on a bit of weight to Roy and increases his survivability, but at the cost of a much worse recovery.)
This is built around aerial pressure and offense, its also pretty effective against pretty much anyone. Though, this build does have some drawbacks and doesn't work well if you have your Roy with a more 'tank-ish' setup.

My Roy (JadeDragon) likes spamming Down Smash - It was fine the initial levels, but it's really annoying to get him to stop doing it. It's because it's one of the few moves I can't seem to block and counter accordingly.
Granted, I'm in the middle of training him right now. But I have to reset every time he hits me with it.
To tell a point of how much it irritates me he's using it? He broke my shield in a early match, and instead of forward smash right next to me, he uses down smash - a quick down smash.
