Last night, Super Smash Bros. was updated to 1.1.5 completely out of nowhere. It brought a lot of changes to both competitive play and the amiibo training metagame. In this post, I'll be listing all of the changes that are relevant to the amiibo metagame. There's a lot, so bear with me here. By the way, thanks to Glenn for finding out the second and third tidbits in "General Changes". He was doing some messing around last night and found a good bit of info.
General Changes
- Amiibo with shield bonuses can now perfect shield more consistently.
- Explosive perfect shield now stuns opponents, allowing followups.
- Amiibo will now attempt to grab opponents more often.
Character Changes
Some characters were either buffed or nerfed. I'm only going to post relevant character changes below - this means I'm not going to tell you if any aerials were changed. Just moves that are important to amiibo training - smash attacks, special moves, recovery, etc.
Bayonetta:
- Witch Time ending lag increased.
- Heel Slide 2 ending lag increased.
Nothing too bad for Bayonetta, but when her amiibo comes around, she'll need to use Witch Time a bit more sparingly due to its newly increased cooldown.
Cloud:
- Forward smash knockback reduced.
- Down smash knockback reduced.
- Limit Break Cross Slash knockback reduced.
- Finishing Touch knockback reduced.
- Cloud's Limit Break takes longer to charge.
Cloud was severely nerfed in this update. His best options were toned down and his Limit Break requires an additional 1.5 seconds of charging to reach its maximum. Really quite a shame.
Corrin:
- Counter Surge knockback reduced.
- Reduced walk and run speed.
Corrin was also hit by the nerfhammer. Her Counter no longer deals 1.35x damage, now dealing 1.2x instead, bringing her in line with Marth and Lucina. By all accounts, it's not that bad of a nerf - her Counter will still be great in the amiibo world.
Duck Hunt
- Last hit of all smashes does more knockback.
Kirby
- Forward smash has increased knnockback.
- Up smash has increased knockback.
- Down smash has increased knockback.
- All Hammer customs have increased knockback.
Kirby got buffed once again, making him even better as an amiibo. Stronger smash attacks mean he can get the KO earlier.

- Down smash knockback increased.
Mewtwo
- Very slightly heavier.
- Run speed increased.
Samus
- Forward smash now connects more reliably.
It may only be one change, but this is a big buff. Now Samus can play defense well! She's going to be moving up to C Rank in the near future.
And there you have it, all of the changes we know about so far. Sheik and Zero Suit Samus were nerfed to balanced the competitive scene, but they were all aerial changes so that doesn't matter at all. What do you think of this patch?
