I've decided to start with my Greninja amiibo. I'm going for a Defensive Trade-Off Tank setup, and, through trial and error, got the following.
Effects * Improved trade-off ability * Lifesteal * Critical-hit capability
Atk - +30 Def - +160 Spd - -74
I was hoping the speed decrease wouldn't hurt Greninja too much, since he is pretty fast. Is the layout good, or should I start from scratch (and scour for a critical hit equipment piece again)?

This could work. Haven't done too much Greninja training yet but that should be OK.

Effects * Improved trade-off ability * Lifesteal * Critical-hit capability Atk - +30 Def - +160 Spd - -74 Amiibo can have a total of 120 positive points (assuming no negative stats) when fed equipment. Your Greninja currently has (30 + 160 - 74) 116 points. You could continue feeding it to get those 4 extra points and change the stats of your greninja to +30 / +160 / -70.

I use a similar build for my Lucario, though, he's a bit faster for aerial follow ups.
For Greninja... I dunno. He's a bit of an oddball if you ask me. He (at least the amiibo) can't really function well in the air, and he's low key when it comes to the ground.
I'd say this works pretty good, I just hope he can recover well.
