yes I disrespect no-scope Super NES offstage with a Headbutt lol OH, BTW GUYS, SPEAKING OF NO-SCOPES. There are actually certain characters who are specifically programmed to snipe poor Ness offstage when recovering with projectiles. Its hilarious lol Wait, there are?! Who?! Yup, pretty much an character that can angle their projectiles downward. Sheik, (Dr.) Mario, Pikachu, Pac-Man, and Yoshi have all shown me that they can do it lol

While Ness isn't quite top tier any more, Super NES is an exception to that rule. He's a top practitioner of what I call the "main concept" - if an amiibo trainer buys an amiibo of a character they truly love, and have a true desire to make them great, they'll do very well in tournaments regardless of their tier list ranking. Some other "main concept practitioners" are Unoriginal Username's Luigi, Jigglypuff's Mr. Game & Watch, and Glenn's Pikachu.
Ness has the tools to take on every character. First, you must pack Improved escapability. One of the biggest things on Super NES' mind at all times is when he can get a back throw in. If your amiibo doesn't have Improved escape, it will die early and almost certainly lose the challenge. Second, the tier list doesn't really work against him at all - he does relatively well against Lucina, Little Mac, and Rosalina. The only reliable way to beat Super NES is to enter a "main concept practitioner" of a character he doesn't have a lot of matchup experience against. Yes, he has had experience against every character, but he hasn't faced truly good amiibo of each character. Some of his weaker matchups include the Miis, Sheik, Luigi - it's mostly characters you don't see in tournaments.
Please note that Super NES does have his progress saved during Clash of Champions and Super NES Challenges. In CoC1, the only progress I saved to him was the final match against Jesus McSwizzle's Ganondorf, not any others. His progress being saved in the Super NES Challenges will essentially make him tougher to beat, as if people do go with underrepresented characters that he might lack proper experience against, he'll remember the matches and do better against them later.
It's also worth remembering that large characters have bad matchups against Ness. Sure, that Ganondorf nearly caught him off guard, but now that he's practiced and lost against him, he'll likely never lose to a Ganondorf again. Something I've been trying to get Super NES to do after viewing his CoC1 performance (and has so far been met with success) is chain PK Fires. Large characters, specifically Bowser and Ganon, have no counters or fast enough moves to escape, so if they're hit once and Ness pulls off the chain, they're completely helpless.
So, this will be a tough one. By the way, if you win the challenge, you will receive the Super NES Badge EX. The description is going to be updated to say the only way to get it is to win the Super NES Challenge.

You know how everyone said to beat him with another Ness or DK? I have a better idea........... We beat him using Pac-Man.

Guys, guys, have you all forgotten?
In Cloud's last (or the one before that) Ness Guide Update, he discussed ideas and tips on how to beat Ness!
If I remember right, the biggest things needed were as follows:
1. A Counter move (EPS or Down Special)
2. Improved Escapability (To escape the Back Throw).
Unless Cloud might've put up a farce...
...in which case we're doomed.

If they manage to beat him, we can all dance and have some coffee. And if they don't... weeeeeeeeeeelllllll I haven't come up with anything yet, but it probably involves having them go skydiving. ... that's not actually a bad thing, is it?

I will train the ultimate Danky Kang. yes I disrespect no-scope Super NES offstage with a Headbutt lol OH, BTW GUYS, SPEAKING OF NO-SCOPES. There are actually certain characters who are specifically programmed to snipe poor Ness offstage when recovering with projectiles. Its hilarious lol What if we train a Link to stop him from recovering. Snipe with arrows or be creative with the boomerang. The windbox on the boomerang's return trip can interrupt Ness' recovery without giving him another one and carry him away.

Toon Link's Fire Arrows might angle well enough to hit Ness when recovering, but Link himself doesn't really have anything to work with sadly.

Guys, let's make a deal: if one of us wins the upcoming WAS, we should submit that file for the challenge. You guys up for that?

Although I'm not interested myself in taking the challenge, I suppose I could give some useful tips.
Of course, one important thing is preparation, but since we can't train the amiibo against Super NES by making him fight Super NES, we can't exactly go for the direct optimization against Super NES, we'd have to train him against Ness.
Super NES focuses on a Defense & Punish playstyle, which means that to actually get to the 'hitting him' part we would either need to: A) Shield Break! B) Fast attacks that are harder to perfect shield.
Outcome A is unlikely, as Super NES is very good at perfect shielding, and trying to get a Shield Break will usually result in a punish if it fails. Outcome B seems more likely, since fast attacks, despite an amiibo's reaction times, are generally safer, as strikes with less endlag give you less time to get hit.
About Ness as a character, his recovery can be sniped, which essentially nullifies it and makes Ness die, wonderful. Projectiles are particularly bad, because of the PSI Magnet that heals and the F-Smash that reflects.
A character with a reflector would be somewhat useful. If you can reflect PK Fire, then maybe you could combo Super NES with his own move, how helpful!
Also, the infamous back throw has a low base knockback, and a high knockback growth. Essentially, if your %s are low, you'll be safe from the back throw. Other than that, good luck.
