I'm going to train an Olimar. Here's his proposed setup: 40 Atk, 70 Def, 10 Spd -Critical Hit -Improved Escapability -Lifesteal
I'm kinda iffy on Lifesteal, as I don't know if it works through Pikmin Throw.
Training wise, what should I focus on with Olimar? Any problems on the guy, and what could I do to fix it?

I've heard of some problems with his Pikmin, can someone clarify what those problems are?

I've never trained an Olimar. I know Tmac had one that got 4th place in a tournament, he may be able to help.

I know he said to focus on the Pikmin. That is unfortunately all i know. His beat a Little Mac, so Olimar has a ton of potential.

Lifesteal is fantastic with Pikmin Throw, FYI. Pikmin don't count as projectiles, and thus, they give Olimar % back when they're latched on. We're talking him potentially gaining back as much as 20+% for every round of Pikmin he throws out. That's, RIDICULOUS. So you definitely wanna keep Lifesteal.
Honestly, I don't think there's anything more important than teaching Olimar how to keep his Pikmin under control. Its seriously vital that he knows to pluck them back whenever he loses them at anytime, he just won't stand a chance otherwise.
If you're gonna focus on moves for him to use, teach him to use his smash attacks, jab, tilts, Pikmin Throw, Pikmin Pluck, and Whistle if you can. While grabs would normally be extremely important here, they don't work for the amiibo very well; especially if your Olimar is facing somebody with Improved Escapability.
Also, make sure teach him to how to counterattack with smash attacks and get kills with them. He struggles with getting KO's otherwise.
One last thing I can think of is making sure that he can get perfect shields consistently. Olimar's shield is super small, so it breaks easily.
That's pretty much it- happy training!

Olimar's Level 50 already, and showing much potential. He and Luigi fought a close game, with Luigi barely winning.
The only flaw I've noticed so far is that he waits 10-20 seconds before plucking new ones. I'll try to work that out.

Its just when he stops plucking them is the problem... for sure.

I've noticed the timer method is terrible on Olimar. He ignores plucking Pikmin because A. He wants to get the timer instead, or B. Being at a slower speed than the opponent is too risky for him to pluck.
