(This is my second thread in this section and the first was yesterday my god)
The art of Randomizing Pokemon games is beautiful. You can take any of the games (minus gen 6), throw them into a randomizer, and get pure art. I will be attempting a playthrough of Pokemon Black randomized, which means I'll end the playthrough upon defeating Ghetsis and viewing the credits for the first time. If you want to try this out for yourself, I'd reccomend searching for the Universal Pokemon Randomizer and downloading it. You will need a ROM of the desired game (which I cannot lead you towards or else that would get me into some hot water) and an emulator that can emulate the ROM you're playing. Just load up the ROM into the randomizer, choose your desired randomizations, and then plug it into your emulator. Enjoy! (Note: For basic computers, I'd recommend emulating only games from Gen 1-3. If your computer can run a game like TF2 or Portal 2 at a steady constant rate without overheating or anything, then I'd say it'd be ok to emulate Gen 4-5.)
For reference, here are the options I put into the Randomizer. You will get similar results, but not the same as mine.
* General Options: No Game-Breaking Moves
* Pokemon Base Statistics: Random (follow evolutions) + Standardize EXP curves
* Pokemon Abilities: Random + Do Not Allow Wonder Guard
* Pokemon Types: Random (follow evolutions)
* Pokemon Evolutions: Unchanged + Change Impossible Evolutions + Make Evolutions Easier
* Starter Pokemon: Randomize (basic stage w/ 2 evolutions)
* Static Pokemon: Random (Legendary <-> Legendary & Normal <-> Normal)
* In Game Trades: Randomized Requested/Given Pokemon + Randomize Nickname/OT/IVs/Held Item
* Pokemon Movesets: Random (prefer same type)
* Trainers Pokemon: Type Themed + Rival keeps starter + Similar strength + Weight types by # of Pokemon of that type + Don't use legendaries + No Early Wonder Guard
* Wild Pokemon: Global 1-to-1 mapping + Similar Strength + Don't use legendaries + Minimum catch rate + Randomize held items + Ban bad items
* TM Moves: Random + TM/Level Up Move Sanity + Full HM compatibility
* TM/HM Compatibility: Random (prefer same type)
* Field Items: Randomize + Ban Bad Items
* Fastest Text Speed

(EDIT: OH MY GOD I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW I ACCIDENTALLY SAVED OVER MY SAVE STATE WHILE TRYING TO LOAD IT AND EVERYTHING WENT TERRIBLY WRONG, BELOW IS MY NEW, RERANDOMIZED GAME...R.I.P. Totally Awesome Electric/Dragon Zubat Starter)
Started the game, and upon seeing what starters we have...oh boy...
First, we have Klink, who replaces Snivy. They are a Dark/Ghost type with the ability Volt Absorb and the hidden ability Forecast. I have no idea how the latter ability would work on any Pokemon but Castform, but let's move on.
Replacing Tepig, we have Cleffa, which is a Psychic/Ice type. They have Filter for a normal ability and Static for their HA. You can already see how much of an unfortunate disadvantage Cleffa is, compared to Klink.
And replacing Oshawott is Elekid, with the curious typing of Ground/Flying. Their only ability is Drizzle, and their HA is White Smoke. But, if I wanted Elekid, I'd have to plan on randomly finding the item necessary to fully evolve it...
With all things considered, I chose Klink. With a Dark/Ghost typing it sounds like it'd have a...mysterious backstory.
Klink - The Gear Pokemon
Dark/Ghost Type
They never stop turning, always producing energy. Any abandoned factory or workplace is bound to be full of them.
Like that? I'll be doing that for every Pokemon I end up catching, or any other Pokemon we encounter, if it's requested. Anywho, I checked Klink's moves during battle, and all they have is Payback so far. They also have Volt Absorb for their ability (it's the only ability they possibly could've gotten). I lost to Bianca (who's Elekid knew Earthquake and SPACIAL REND) and I 2HKO'd Cheren's poor Cleffa, who didn't even land a hit. Not too much longer later, and I finally get to explore Route 1. Normally, there would only be Patrats and Lillipups here. Buuuut...
First, we have Cottonee, who is pure Flying this time around! They have Sand Veil and Oblivious for abilities, and Swarm for a HA, but it's kinda useless, since it's a Flying type and not a, say, Bug type. That could actually use said ability. Oh well.
Our second and final encounter on Route 1 is Bonsly! It's type is...Steel/Water?! True to canon Bonsly, his type and appearance don't exactly match up. Maybe it looks like a tree, but is actually like a metallic piece of coral? That'd make sense I suppose. Sorry, uh, it's ability is Shell Armor and it's HA is Trace. Curious.
Well, I decided to catch myself a Bonsly, after much internal debate. He (this one is male) looks like he'll be a valuable member to the team!
Bonsly - The Tree Coral Pokemon
Steel/Water Type
It lives in the water and on land. Due to it's appearance, it can pass as coral or a sapling.
Bonsly has Shell Armor for it's ability and knows two moves: Water Veil and Hydro Pump. For such an early Pokemon, he's packing some serious power!
I ended the day by buying 5 Potions from the Pokemon Center. Maybe next time, we'll see what's going on in Accumula Town!
