From my time in Terraria, I've experimented a lot in Player vs Player.
Here's some text about me in PvP, my gear and other trivialities..
I've had my fair share of time playing as a Melee character, which was actually useful with the Solar Armor & Solar Eruption, as you could dash to close gaps and cover a large distance with the weapon. I would create a lot of trouble before dying, but I found I prefer a Ranged playstyle using Vortex Armor.
In Terraria, I take the name of Doomsday. When cloaked, I become entirely invisible, so the only method of knowing where I am would be to attack everywhere (A lack of discretion for melee, a waste of ammunition if ranged) or to be attacked by me. I never use pets or summons, and mounts are only used for transportation. I do move very slowly while Cloaked, and I don't use wings, even though they wouldn't decloak me.
Now for some technical stuff, which would make sense only if you played the game. I'm writing this because I'm bored, and partly because I wanted to do some research on just how effective my character was.
My preferred weapon is my Unreal SDMG, shooting 12 bullets per second. I use an Endless Musket during most conflicts, but I resort to Luminite Bullets (Piercing & Higher damage) when in Team fights or during bets in sets of 3 duels. What I'll fight over varies greatly. I've gone from duels over 50 gold to my record of 10 platinum, and I once fought to keep my SDMG.
With my endless bullets, I shoot for around 250 damage. With the PvP hit invincibility of 0.13 seconds, I would kill a user with maxed HP and no armor in 0.26 seconds. Usually, people can have about 60 defense (Reducing damage in normal worlds by 30, and in expert worlds by 45.), which means it would take me 3 shots to kill, death being in 0.39 seconds.
I use a generally defensive playstyle for my accessories, using a Paladin's Shield, Frozen Turtle Shell, Shiny Stone, Ranger Emblem and a Sniper Scope, each with the Warding affix. This adds up to the following effects of:
+ 25% Ranged damage
+ 10% Ranged Critical Hit chance (You cannot crit on players, otherwise I'd shoot for 500 and 1-shot.)
- Extended vision range via right-click.
- Regenerate massive amounts of HP while standing still (Up to 40 HP / Second)
- Nullifies Knockback from being hit
- When below 50% life, take 25% less damage
- When above 25% life, nearby enemies take 75% damage, I absorb the 25%, defense still applies.
- 26 Defense from accessories
(30 in Expert Worlds)-
-17% Damage taken (6th accessory is the Worm Scarf, deactivated in Normal Worlds)I have a total of 88 defense in Normal worlds, or 92 in Expert Worlds
In the end, when taking damage, it goes something like this.
If I'm in a Normal world, damage taken is reduced by half of my defense, to a minimum of 1. So...
- While above 50% HP, any damage dealt to me is reduced by 44.
- While under 50% HP, any damage dealt to me is reduced by 44 and multiplied by 0.75. Result is rounded down.
The maximum damage that gets reduced to 1 is
46.
(Strongest Melee Weapon Nullified is the
Night's Edge.)
In an Expert World, damage taken is reduced by 3/4 of my defense (92 in expert worlds ) and my Worm Scarf activates, reducing damage by 17%. This means that:
- While above 50% HP, any damage dealt to me is reduced by 69, then multiplied by 0.83. Result is rounded down.
Maximum damage reduced to 1 is a massive
71.(The Strongest melee weapon that is nullified are the lethal
Fetid Baghnakhs.)
- While under 50% HP, any damage dealt to me is reduced by 69, then multiplied by 0.58. Result is rounded down.
Maximum damage reduced to 1 is
73.Although my goal isn't to take 1 damage, but rather to minimize it as long as I can before death. % reductions are extremely useful when attacks go past your defense, as hitting for a few hundred is common in Terraria's endgame. My goal is to ambush people, so taking damage is usually a rare occurance, as I usually seek cover in unusual places and fight sets in arenas with platforms for maximum grounded mobility, even though cloaking makes me move slowly. Wings would help my mobility while cloaked, but I don't need to run. In the event I do decide to run, I'll fly away in my UFO mount, shooting at the enemies as I leave the battelfield.
If you persevered through all that, congratulations. To celebrate, here's an image of what my character looks like while uncloaked.
