As I do after every week, here's an update on the Weekly Amiibo Skirmish!
Low-Tier For the Win!
I’m happy to say that the Little Mac ban yielded some great results in terms of diversity. We had two Palutenas, two Lucinas, a Lucas, classic Olimar, my own Fox, Pac-Man, Mewtwo, and DUCK HUNT? This isn’t even everyone! (That’s here btw:
t.co/v493ecZHb4) It makes me happy to see such “Low-tier” amiibo doing so well, so kudos to their trainers!
Results:
1st: Lucina (@birdjesusxl)
2nd: Mewtwo (
ChiefGrizzly)
3rd: Palutena (Halfamask)
4th: Palutena (PKMN Master)
Look at all that low-tier swag! Even Lucina is only A-rank.
Changes in the Future:
Bit a whine session: I’m freaking tired guys. I knew that running a tournament was going to be a lot of work, but I didn’t expect to have this big a tournament THIS fast. As such, there won’t be a WAS next week, the week of the 18th.
I’ll try to get back to doing weekly ones again the next week. It’s also the last week of school (work) for me, the next week upcoming, and I really need a break.
New Site Section: Builds
I’ve had a lot of requests to post builds from the tournaments to help everyone further develop their Amiibo training. I’m totally down for this, and I’ll make a gallery on the site (link) with all the spreads from the past three tournaments so far.
As part of entering into the WAS, you agree that I have the right to share your Amiibo build on my website and twitter. If you’re super secretive and against this, I need to be informed in your entry email that you don’t want me to share it. THIS is the heads-up. I’m putting this post on like, three different places, so there’s no excuse not to know this.
Tournament Announcement!
For a while, I’ve been wondering for what I can do that really takes these tournaments to the next level and gives a little value to my point/ladder system, which some people seem to really love!
I’ve decided that I will be holding a huge invitation-only The qualifier to receiving an invitation from me is your points. I haven’t decided on a point threshold yet to qualify, but it’ll be reasonably high. Will this encourage people to use high-tiers to qualify? Maybe, but WAS2 had 5 Ganondorf and none of them made it into semis. Keep that in mind.
This tournament will have a legitimate prize as well, in order to build up a lot of hype. It’ll also take place late in the summer to give people a chance to secure their own invite. There will also be ~special~ invites given out to people who I want to be in the tournament and represent big names in the Amiibo Metagame. I want this to be an Amiibo tournament that actually gets a ton of attention from non-Amiibo trainers in order to entice them to join the community!
The ruleset will be the same as WAS rules, so 2/3, no Little Mac, etc.
A fully-detailed post will be coming soon, but for now, all you need to know is that you should be throwing yourself into as many tournaments as you can.
Conclusion
WAS2 was our biggest one yet, and I’m so happy to have gotten the opportunity to watch a plethora of wildly out-there Amiibo duke it out. I’m very excited for the upcoming invite-only tournament, and whatever name I come up with it, and the changes to our metagame. I’m seeing real development in training and stuff in regards to how people are playing this game, and that was our original goal starting out with the Weekly Skirmish. I sincerely thank you all for participating, and remember that these tournaments are for fun! So keep things fun, prevent burn-out by playing other games (I’ve been binging Pocket Card Jockey!), and as always, GG.
